Henri Cartier-Bresson once said of him in the early 1930s, "We all owe him a great deal"
i can't think of too many photographers who worked w/as many techniques, sought out such diverse subject matter, & who had such an eye for composition & frame, a classical modernist, i suppose. it's not hard to see him in almost every photographer's work since.
